CHAPTER 2

GENEALOGY OF HAM

The genealogy of Ham is of vital importance since all the major events in the Old Testament occurred in the Land of Ham and Classical Africa (See Map 2.1). The Land of Ham is simply the Land where the children of Ham lived. To get a better understanding about ancient and biblical history, we need to understand three (3) things: 1) the geography or location, 2) the time frame and 3) the people living at that time. This will enlighten us as to how the continents and nations got their names. As mentioned earlier in Chapter 1, the Bible says the people named their lands after themselves once they possessed the land. The lands were named after their own names and their children so that future generations would know who originally possessed the land.

Psalm 49:11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

When we study the people of the Bible, it is easy to identify who the people of the land were. By simply knowing the name of the land and/or their ancestors, we can determine if they were black or not. Notice the euro-centric viewpoint written by a European Jew. “Ham the most ancient name for Egypt was (actually) ‘Chem’, meaning ‘black’, alluding no doubt to the dark color of the Egyptian soil.”(1) Why did this authorized sanction scholar tell us that the meaning for Ham, Egypt and Chem is ‘Black’ but refers to soil and not the color of the inhabitance of Egypt? Chem means black and refers to the melanin in their skin. It is interesting to see that Chem is the main word in chemistry and through chemistry we can study the complexion of one’s skin, melanin.

Consider the fact; Ham had a son named Cush. When the name “Cush” is translated in the Bible, it is translated “Ethiopia.” From this example, we can see that the Ethiopians are Black Africans and were descendants from Ham, a Black African. Later, Ham had a son named Canaan. So this would mean that all the Canaanites were also descendants of Ham and Black Classical Africans.

Here is an example of Israelites renaming a city in the Land of Canaan. Let us look at the tribe of Dan. They re-named a city in the Land of Canaan, “Dan” after the name of their father and tribe.

Judges 18:29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.

The Israelites renamed a city in the Land of Canaan after themselves and their father. We will see that Jair, of the tribe of Manasseh, not only names a city but he renames the entire country all the way to the sea coast, after himself.

Deuteronomy 3:14 “Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day.

Today this custom is still being practiced. For example: 1) Washington, DC is named after George Washington, 2) Pennsylvania is named after William Penn; 3) Virginia is named after Elizabeth I (the virgin Queen) and 4) Maryland after Queen Mary.
